Primal Lore
We began with a cut scene of Thancred being kind of emo, and some story regarding the Primals and tempering. Chaide commented that if they had to explain why they're doing what they're doing, and not reveal it to the public, is it really right?
I have to hand it to him, it's definitely something to consider. But at the same time, if we knew all that our government-of-choice knew, would it be best for everybody as a whole? More than likely not. Some people would be able to handle it, and some wouldn't. So I think, at this time, based on the story I know, the Scions are in a difficult position and are making the best choice they can with their options.
A Courtship
Once Thancred leaves, three recruiting officers come calling to court us. Yep. Court us.
I wonder whose fault it is... ah hah. Who can blame a Lalafell, right?
The Speeches
So now, it's time to go around from city to city and listen to their rousing speeches. But we ran across those twins we see in the first cutscene when you create a character. And boy, are they annoying.Aligning With a Company
So after all these speeches, we head back to Minfilia and choose a Grand Company. Chaide ended up going with the Immortal Flames, and I really wanted to be a part of the Maelstrom (Roegadyn leader... DOSE HATS DOE.)Before you can even get sworn in, they send you on a quest to save an airship from Garlean raiders! Oh noes!
Chaide loved this part, having played other Final Fantasy games. He said that Biggs and Wedge are in some of the other games (looking different, of course), and it was a great nostalgia moment for him.
Swearing In
We finally head back and are sworn in as a part of our Grand Companies! The next part of our main storyline sends us to Gridania for what we assume is the leadup to another Primal fight, but we're going to hold off on that for a bit.
Tonight we're going to work towards seals for our Chocobos (by grinding FATEs out near Dry Bone). It's a little disheartening that we have to either grind FATEs or GC quests to get seals to get our first mount. But, we'll do it nonethelesss, because we want those damn Chocobos! We also think (if we have time) that we'll hit up the Saucer for the first time! This could be a bad thing. We could be stuck at level 23 for a long time...
I know it seems like it's a lot of grinding for the chocobo, but it's really, really worth it. Eventually, you'll have so many GC seals, you won't know what to do with them! Good luck! :D
ReplyDeleteThe one FATE we did near Drybone gave us just under 150, so we figure it shouldn't be too bad for the first grind, and as we continue to do FATEs we'll naturally get more. It's just the initial grind that'll feel like a grind (we hope!).
ReplyDeleteYeah, getting the 1st 2000 feels like a grind, but it actually goes fairly quickly.
ReplyDeleteIf you do the Flame GC leve quests in Drybone you'll get about 200 per quest, so you only need to do 10 of them, and they only take 3-5 minutes apiece, so you can actually bang out the 200 in less than an hour. Plus the leve quests give a ton of xp and you'll probably get a level out of it too.
Downside -- they must be done solo. Can't initiate them in a group, not even with a Chocobo companion.
We ended up getting them all via FATEs while we did some questing on foot. Now that we're not really needing them, we have a bunch, haha. :)
